GPOY: [Insert Tiny Tim Lyric of Choice Here] Edition
In which my love/hate relationship with summer leans to the side of love as I realize that it’s sometimes pretty damn great to live in California and that today’s as good a day as any to get my annual weird, tiny ankle sunburn that will eventually become my weird, tiny ankle tan, remaining visible until roughly October.

“You Still Believe In Me”, The Beach Boys

Present outdoor gloominess aside, I feel the inexorable creep of summer, a season that I like to pretend to out-and-out hate, since it would be simpler, but which actually fills me with an achy sort of ambivalence, the yearning and regret of a young person undoubtedly wasting her youth, underlined by pervasive heat and missed opportunities for adventure compounded by the reluctance to leave my air-conditioned environs.

Anyway, the Beach Boys are pretty good, right?

“Hot in Herre”, Jenny Owen Youngs

It’s been a good day, albeit a sweaty one. My god, this weather.

“A Girl Needs A Boy”, Annette Funicello, from the Muscle Beach Party soundtrack

My intense and unwavering love for Beach Party movies merits further discussion.
