If watching John Phillip Law and Marisa Mell fuck on a pile of money doesn’t make you wish you lived inside a volcano I can’t help you and god can’t either, son—you’re done.

‘I’m beginning to think you write your own dialogue,’ I said. ‘I’ve been wondering just what was the matter with it.’
I ducked. A few drops splattered me. The glass splintered on the wall behind me. The broken pieces fell soundlessly.
‘And with that,’ she said, completely calm, ‘I believe I must have used up my entire stock of girlish charm.’

I am already bored of the Oscar Nominations, so I’m armchair casting for the James Mason role in the Beyoncé Star Is Born. (I’m not letting the fact that Clint Eastwood is attached to direct get me down because this prospect is so exciting to me. He’s done…
Okay, I shouldn’t have to tell you guys that I was OVER THE MOON when I heard about this project a few days ago. I mean, Clint Eastwood + Beyoncé remaking an already twice-made movie (starring, in its respective incarnations, gay icons Judy Garland and Barbara Streisand!)?! I ask you now, WHAT’S NOT TO LOVE. Also, that “T.I. is the James Mason of rap” statement may not be strictly accurate, but my god, I applaud its audacity (you could call anyone “the James Mason of rap” and it would make me sit up and take notice).

This is the only couple I’d ever want to go on a double date with. I want them to invite me and my boyfriend to dinner because I have this unshakable suspicion that they are incredibly gracious hosts. They are friendly and make you feel comfortable and welcome and serve great food, but aren’t too ostentatious or pretentious about their wealth, and all their PDA is really tasteful, like her hand is resting on the table and he puts his hand on hers and smiles at her affectionately, and maybe after dinner we’re all drinking brandy and playing parlor games but not Pictionary because Pictionary makes a monster out of me and I don’t want to embarrass myself in front of these two, and then they’re all, “We’ll have to have you over again sometime, maybe something casual like watch a movie and order in pizza because we’re also super down-to-earth” and we’ll be like “Totally, give us a call” and on the way home we’ll hold hands and think about what a pleasant evening we just had.

‘How do you feel?’ It was a smooth silvery voice that matched her hair. It had a tiny tinkle in it, like bells in a doll’s house. I thought that was silly as soon as I thought of it.
‘Great,’ I said. ‘Somebody built a filling station on my jaw.’
‘What did you expect, Mr. Marlowe — orchids?’
‘Just a plain pine box,’ I said. ‘Don’t bother with the bronze or silver handles. And don’t scatter my ashes over the blue Pacific. I like the worms better. Did you know that worms are of both sexes and that any worm can love any other worm?’
‘You’re a little light-headed,’ she said, with a grave stare.

In which Raymond Chandler demonstrates, for our betterment, how to tiptoe ever so delicately along the borders of self-parody.

You never describe any horrors happening, you just say that they do happen. Children who got crunched up in Willy Wonka’s chocolate machine were carried away and that was the end of it. When the parents screamed, ‘Where has he gone?’ and Wonka said, ‘Well, he’s gone to be made into fudge,’ that’s where you laugh, because you don’t see it happening, you don’t hear the child screaming or anything like that ever, ever, ever.

It’s so effortless to let my loneliness defeat me, make me mold myself to whatever would (in some way - but not wholly) relieve it. I must never forget it… I want sensuality and sensitivity, both… Let me never deny that… I want to err on the side of violence and excess, rather than to underfill my moments.
